Eating more animal protein may increase the risk of death

Meat-eating is a way of life many people enjoy, but a diet rich in animal protein, especially meat, has been found to have no health benefits. Scientists from the University of Eastern Finland found through a 20-year follow-up study, Males who prefer animal protein rather than plant protein diets may be at higher risk of death than men who are more balanced in dietary protein.
Compared with men who eat the most balanced diet of animal protein and plant protein, men who eat mostly animal protein have a 23 percent increased risk of death. And high meat intake seems to be associated with negative health effects. During the follow-up period, men who consumed large amounts of meat (eg, more than 200 grams per day) were 23% more likely to die than men who consumed less than 100 grams of meat per day. The men who participated in the study mainly consumed red meat, and most of the nutritional advice limited the intake of red meat and processed meat. For example, in Finland, the maximum recommended weekly intake is 500 grams.
The study found that higher total dietary protein intake was associated with an increased risk of death in men diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer, although similar associations were not found in individuals without these conditions. In addition, the study also highlighted the need to investigate the effects of protein intake on the health of the body, especially for patients with chronic disease, the average age of men participating in the study was 53 years old, and the lack of protein diet in the study population was not typical.
Researcher Heli Virtanen said the findings should not be extended to older populations with a higher risk of malnutrition and protein intake against recommended doses. Earlier studies have shown that high consumption of animal proteins, especially processed meats such as sausages and frozen meats, is associated with an increased risk of death. However, researchers are still not clear about the specific effects and mechanisms of protein and different protein source diets on the health of the body.
Although it's not clear why eating more animal protein increases the risk of death, it does increase the risk of death in humans. So from now on, eat less meat and have a balanced diet. This not only can strengthen the body, but also can extend life, why not?
